Lucy is a textile artist.

Lucy’s practice explores the concept of visible repair within the context of fast fashion, unpicking the industry’s influence over the relationship we have with our clothes. Working with discarded denim, scrap, donated and deadstock fabrics, a bold design aesthetic and striking colour palette, she combines sashiko-style embroidery with layering to create patches, embellishment and adornment. Lucy’s projects seek to extend the lifespan and desirability of wearable clothing, creating a reinvigorated and longer-term relationship between garment and wearer.

Lucy was one of 14 artists selected to produce a participatory, drop-in workshop for a public audience at In:Site 2024. Exploring the theme of care, their workshop developed and incorporated the ideas, techniques, approaches and materials used in their own practice.

Window Patches with Lucy Trousers took inspiration from the shapes found in the architecture and stained glass of the Cathedral. Lucy invited people to learn about ways they can reinvigorate old garments through visible repair and patch-making, working with a range of techniques, discarded denim and dead-stock fabrics.

Several boxes on a table, each containing a different component to create a patch. Beads, offcuts of colourful fabrics, laser cut denim shapes, embroidery hoops, and scissors.
