Craftspace is a charity creating opportunities to see, make and be curious about exceptional contemporary craft.
We are based in Birmingham and work collaboratively regionally, nationally and internationally.
We build relationships between artists, people and organisations and encourage the sharing of ideas, skills and knowledge.
We have 30 years’ experience and continue to learn, push boundaries and challenge ideas.
Craftspace initiates artistic programmes which stimulate creative excellence, critical thinking and understanding of contemporary crafts in the widest social and cultural contexts.
We are a small team led by our Director, Deirdre Figueiredo MBE.
Arts Council England, National Portfolio Organisation announcement 2017
We are delighted to announce that Craftspace will continue as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation receiving investment for the next four years.
We have an ambitious programme working with partners to commission UK and international artists at all stages of their careers. They will feature in touring exhibitions or cross-artform productions and share their creative skills with a range of communities who will experience the power of making together.
To fulfil our ambitions, Arts Council funding will provide a base from which we will need to generate income and fundraise from a range of sources including Trusts, Foundations and private donors.
“Over the last 30 years, Craftspace has been creating opportunities for people to enjoy and make contemporary craft. It will be great to see our funding supporting its work over the next four years, helping the team to develop new projects which make an impact in Birmingham and beyond.” Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England
