The Migrating Birds collection is one of the most popular Shelanu ranges and was developed with the support of Birmingham artist Rita Patel. The delightful Swallow, Sparrow and Wave motifs take centre stage and tell a story of migration and arrival in Birmingham. Behind the simple motifs is the story of Shelanu as a place of welcome for women, of shared endeavour and friendship; purchasing and wearing Migrating Birds helps us to share this message with others.
Copper outlines, designed by the members, are wire cut in Birmingham’s famous jewellery quarter and finished with enamel and silver fixings in Shelanu’s workshop. Block enamel colours in contemporary pastel hues, make bold statements on brooches or a lighter touch on earrings and pendants.
