DESCRIPTION:As part of the programme alongside the Women’s Work exhibition\, members from Shelanu will run workshops with women’s refugee groups from Brighton. Learn how to design and make a brooch\, a pendant\, cufflinks or earrings out of polymer clay with artists from Shelanu. You can use image transfers to make your piece more sophisticated. Or learn how to marble the clay for a striking effect. All work will be fired and varnished so you have finished pieces to take away. \nThere will also be an evening of talks\, demonstrations\, music and food on the evening of Friday 5 July. \nOn Saturday 6 July members of Shelanu will run craft workshops. It celebrates the ethos of Shelanu; women coming together to learn new skills\, collaborating and supporting each other in a safe space. They will also be able to see items from the group’s Migrating Birds jewellery range and their Birmingham Souvenir range which includes a purse\, iPad case and a bag showing designs inspired by Birmingham’s architecture. \n “Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter has played an important role in the production of Shelanu’s jewellery ranges and has also provided a wealth of inspiration since the Collective began in 2010.  \nThis exhibition is a milestone for the group\, who are not formally trained. It is the first time Shelanu have shown in Scotland\, so we look forward to reaching a new audience. \nEntrance to the Elements Selling Fair is £5 but entrance to the exhibition is free of charge. \nThe organisers say: \n\nSecrets and Magic\n50 Secrets of Magic Craftsmanship is a remarkable new exhibition of jewellery and other superbly crafted works by 50 international artists and designers. \nThe exhibition has been created by leading modern jewellery curators Amanda Game\, former Director of the Scottish Gallery\, and Professor Dorothy Hogg MBE\, designer and former Head of Jewellery and Silversmithing at Edinburgh College of Art. \nArtists and designers from around the world have been invited to exhibit on the basis of their ability to balance interesting ideas\, skillful craftsmanship and a fresh and exciting approach to a wide range of materials and techniques. \nThe exhibition will also feature pieces from designers who trained in jewellery and have moved into different fields\, including sculpture\, luxury goods\, and Japanese carving\, and others who received early training in painting\, sculpture and product design\, who have been drawn to jewellery making. \n50 Secrets of Magic Craftsmanship will take place from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 November at Elements 3.
