Free community workshops
Aston, Birmingham
April – October 2018
As Making Together at Birmingham Settlement came to an end the sharing event brought everyone involved and the wider community together to see what had happened in the residencies , find out a bit more about the artists involved and reflect on what we had all learned. Over 60 people both adults and children attended and enjoyed a chance to make, eat and socialise.
Over the course of the project we ran 30 different making sessions, saw 164 children and 216 adults, employed 6 artists and one documenter and worked with 2 really great volunteers.
It has been great getting to know the community around Birmingham Settlement and we hope making will become an embedded part of the Settlement’s activities in the future.

“It has been a great experience for me personally doing this workshop as it was my first opportunity to work in the community and as I had imagined, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was so wonderful to see so many people attend the last workshop.”
“In and around this area, there is nothing much going on, for mums with young children, so this is fab!”

“Discovering different kinds of art, meeting new and interesting people!”
‘Thank you again for giving me this fantastic opportunity! I enjoyed every minute of my time at the Settlement and feel privileged to be working with you all.’
“I have learnt finger knitting and met knew people. My little one was happy.”
“I want you to return, I had a wonderful time.”
