Project Summary

Craftspace is at Origin
2 – 14 October (closed on 8th)  Next to stand L5

Craftspace have been invited to take part in the prestigious London Craft fair, Origin this October.

The event, which selects over 300 of the most innovative and influential international designer-makers and is a rare opportunity to meet these makers and buy their work.

Craftspace’s unusual presence at this selling trade fair is to show another dimension to makers’ practice. It demonstrates the valuable role of the maker in wider society.

At Origin 2006 Craftspace awarded a prize to Betty Pepper for a commission to create a permanent artwork for the Community Integration Partnership (CIP) in Birmingham. Her response to the brief forms the centrepiece of the showcase.

Craftspace has worked in a creative partnership with the CIP for four years. The collection of objects on display have resulted from collaborations between women from the CIP and makers; Melanie Tomlinson, Jitka Palmer, Laura McCafferty and Natalie Cole. Most of the makers have stands at Origin 2007.

This event is part of Craftspace’s 21st anniversary celebrations.
